ALTREMANI has been established as a Social Enterprise in Forlì, the first in our territory to operate exclusively through the work of prisoners and ex-prisoners. Davide Saputo, our Head of Factory and Director for Health and Safety, is a founding partner.
ALTREMANI is a new non-profit organization of the Third Sector that wants to innovate and create welfare and social security. ALTREMANI has worked with the Forlì’s prison since 2006, developing over time into five distinct workshops: assembly, welding, carpentry, paper milling and shopper production.
“Creating the Social Enterprise – says Davide – means taking responsibility. The people and companies involved act as guarantors of the territory and for the territory. The union of our efforts is aimed at ensuring an increasingly fluid and healthy path for inmates. ALTREMANI aims to provide a quick and reliable response to market demands, and to facilitate a direct passage between the personnel trained in the workshop and the territory. ”
“ALTREMANI – Davide adds – offers skills in exchange for stability and responsibility. All the people who have been hired through us have become spokespersons of the fact that it is possible to build something that is genuinely positive, and that the world of work must have neither gender nor color nor prejudice.”
CEPI collaborates with Techne (which deals with the overall direction of ALTREMANI) since about a decade, having already created various training programs for vulnerable people before joining the protocol for the prison workshops in 2018. We first commissioned pallets from the carpentry laboratory and later on machine panels from the assembly laboratory.
In July 2020, we launched the welding workshop with ALTREMANI, where inmates weld MIG (Metal-arc Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) in a room equipped with all the necessary machinery (suction system, welding machines, controlled cutting system, positioner for welding, grinding wheels , sockets, transpallets and others). In addition to creating many job opportunities, the laboratory trains high-level argonists with skills that include MIG and TIG welding and the reading of the technical drawing.
CEPI also makes use of the Manolibera workshop, commissioning unique pieces for our Christmas baskets, the decorations of our headquarters or as exclusive gifts to our customers and collaborators. Manolibera uses an ancient Arab-Chinese manufacturing technique to transform bookbinding waste into sustainable and entirely handmade paper products.
“CEPI – adds Davide – has always been at the forefront in all fields, including the social one. They strongly wanted and supported the welding workshop, supplying the welding gas necessary to start the project, commissioning work on an ongoing basis and making many hires. And it was one of the companies that most insisted on the birth of the Social Enterprise. ”
Since 2006, the regular employment contracts generated through ALTREMANI have exceeded 100.
